SULFADIOL®-7Q 
(GS-7Q) 

GS-7Q is a reactive emulsifier for water-based polyurethane dispersions, developed using G Polytec's proprietary technology. With high storage stability and excellent hydrolysis resistance, it is widely commercialized in water-dispersed polyurethane applications such as woodworking and footwear adhesives, and synthetic leather.

Product and Production Stability


Because the terminal functional group is OH, the reaction does not occur abruptly and proceeds uniformly. In addition, no neutralizing agent is required, which helps ensure a uniform particle size in water-based polyurethane dispersions and enhances production stability.


Excellent Hydrolysis Resistance


GS-7Q has a molecular weight of 420 ± 10, which is optimal for synthesis. It provides strong hydrophilicity to polyurethane and was developed as a replacement for carboxyl-group emulsifiers with insufficient hydrolysis resistance. As a sulfonate-type emulsifier, GS-7Q is not highly sensitive to external environmental factors, enabling stable dispersion of polyurethane.

GS-7Q

Due to its high purity, it has very high viscosity at room temperature, resulting in poor flowability. To apply the product, the following additional steps must be followed:

Dilute with a solvent.        

First, sufficiently dilute the product with a solvent (acetone / MEK / others) to improve flowability before adding it. In general, dilution to a concentration of about 60-70% is sufficient.

Expose to a set temperature to improve flowability.        

About 5 hours before, expose it to a set temperature to improve flowability before adding it. In general, 70°C / 5 hours is sufficient.


Handling and Storage Precautions

1) Before use, dilute with a solvent or heat it to sufficiently improve flowability.

2) If exposed to high heat (100°C or higher) for an extended period of time, the color may change to a reddish brown, so do not expose it to high temperatures for long periods.

3) Because it has very strong hydrophilicity, moisture content may increase upon exposure, so make sure the lid is tightly closed.

4) Rinse thoroughly with running water, if it comes into contact with skin.
